Santander lies to the north on the A-67, via Aguilar de Campoo and Reinosa. For the Montaña Palentina it is the natural route to the sea, to Santander airport and to the ferry, and in summer it is one of the most requested trips.

When demand peaks

• Summer in the Montaña Palentina (June to September): In summer tourism rises in the north of the province — reservoirs, Romanesque churches, the natural park — and traffic grows on the A-67 towards Cantabria. At weekends visits mix with trips to Santander.

Tip: For early flights from the Montaña Palentina in winter, allow extra time: with snow or ice on the passes, the first hours are the slowest.
