Venta de Baños is the northern plateau's rail junction and Palencia is ten minutes away, so much of the work is connecting with trains at hours when no bus runs. The north of the province — Aguilar de Campoo and the Romanesque trail — works the other way round: weekend tourism goes up, and people come down for appointments at the Río Carrión hospital.

Each band looks somewhere different: the south to Valladolid and Madrid, the north to Cantabria.
The city of Palencia, on the Carrión river, holds the hospital, the high-speed station, provincial government offices and most services. People come in daily from across the province for appointments and errands, and many connections with trains and with Valladolid start here.
El Cerrato, south-east of the capital, is an area of high moors and valleys whose towns are closely tied to Palencia and Valladolid. Villamuriel works almost as a suburb of the capital, Venta de Baños is a historic railway junction and Dueñas sits beside the A-62, halfway to Valladolid.
Carrión de los Condes is the main town on the French Way of the Camino de Santiago in the province and the centre of a farming area of Tierra de Campos. It receives pilgrims for much of the year and generates transfers for pilgrims who break off their walk, as well as trips by residents to Palencia.
The Montaña Palentina is the north of the province, in the Cantabrian mountains: Aguilar de Campoo, with its biscuit industry and monastery, and Guardo, a former mining area. It is a land of Romanesque churches and a natural park, with weekend tourism, and it is far from the hospital in Palencia.
The centre and north of the province before the mountains: Saldaña, in the Carrión valley, and Herrera de Pisuerga, by the river and the Canal de Castilla. They are market towns serving many small villages, and depend on Palencia for the hospital and the train.

From Palencia there are two sensible ways to reach Madrid: the train from Palencia station, on the high-speed line that runs down through Valladolid to Madrid-Chamartín, or a car with a driver along the A-62 to Valladolid and the A-6 from Tordesillas. The train wins for a day return with little luggage; the car wins when the destination is Barajas, IFEMA or a Madrid hospital, when you travel as a group or when the flight leaves before the first train. Palencia to Barajas is {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}} and about {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:min}}, from {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:precio}} for the whole car; to Chamartín, {{ruta:palencia-a-estacion-chamartin:km}}.
Palencia has no airport of its own and the answer depends on two things: where you are flying and which area you leave from. Valladolid airport, at Villanubla, is the closest for the south of the province, {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-valladolid:km}} from the capital and about {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-valladolid:min}} along the A-62, but its range of flights is short and changes by season. Barajas has almost every destination and is {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}} away, with no direct train to the terminal. From the Montaña Palentina, Santander is closer than Madrid along the A-67. The sensible thing is to find the flight first and choose the airport afterwards; the transfer from home, from {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-valladolid:precio}} to Villanubla, fixes the price before booking.
Río Carrión Hospital, in the city of Palencia, is Sacyl's reference hospital for the whole province, and its clinics receive people from areas more than an hour away: from Aguilar de Campoo it is {{ruta:aguilar-de-campoo-a-hospital-rio-carrion:km}} along the A-67 and about {{ruta:aguilar-de-campoo-a-hospital-rio-carrion:min}}; from Guardo, {{ruta:guardo-a-hospital-rio-carrion:km}} along the CL-615; from Carrión de los Condes, {{ruta:carrion-de-los-condes-a-hospital-rio-carrion:km}}. The coach reaches the bus station, not the hospital, and does not fit an early appointment. The transfer with a driver picks up at home, drops you at the outpatients door and waits or comes back at the end, with the price fixed before booking, from {{ruta:aguilar-de-campoo-a-hospital-rio-carrion:precio}} from Aguilar. It is not medical transport: it is a car with a driver for anyone who can travel seated.
Palencia holds one of the densest groups of Romanesque churches in Europe around Aguilar de Campoo and the Montaña Palentina, two of the major stops of the French Way at Frómista and Carrión de los Condes, the mosaics of the Roman villa of La Olmeda near Saldaña and a Gothic cathedral in the capital. The trouble is that they are far from one another and almost without public transport: linking several visits in one day is only practical by car. Without a car of your own, what works is a driver who takes you, waits and carries on: Palencia to Aguilar is {{ruta:palencia-a-aguilar-de-campoo:km}} along the A-67; to La Olmeda, {{ruta:palencia-a-villa-romana-la-olmeda:km}} and about {{ruta:palencia-a-villa-romana-la-olmeda:min}}, from {{ruta:palencia-a-villa-romana-la-olmeda:precio}} for the whole car.
Accommodation in Palencia province takes in more and more guests without a car: they arrive by train at Palencia station, on the high-speed line from Madrid to León and Santander, or by air at Villanubla, Barajas or Santander, and from there is no public way to carry on to a rural house in the mountains, a hostel in Carrión or a hotel in the capital. A property can offer the transfer as one more service: it is booked in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the driver waits with a name sign, the price is fixed before booking and the invoice goes to the property or the guest, as requested. Palencia is a long province with almost everything in the south: the high-speed station, the Venta de Baños junction, the Río Carrión Hospital and Valladolid half an hour away on the A-62, so the car with a driver lives on connections of two sizes: medium ones, from the mountains and Tierra de Campos to the station and the hospital, and long ones, to Barajas along the A-62 and the A-6, {{ruta:palencia-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}} away, or to Santander along the A-67 from Aguilar and Guardo. This guide explains the method and promises nothing: the car's fixed costs, the empty kilometres of returning without a customer, the corridors with demand and the hours that get covered. A Spanish private hire vehicle may only carry out pre-booked services: it cannot pick up passengers in the street or wait at ranks. That is why everything goes through advance booking, with the price fixed before the trip and the service paperwork issued beforehand.
The big apps do not cover Castilla y León the way they cover Madrid or Barcelona. In most towns in Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora there is no Uber, Cabify or Bolt with the same coverage. It depends on the town. A Spanish private hire authorisation covers intercity transport, while urban trips — those starting and ending in the same town — are reserved for taxis unless a licence covers them. Where we can do it, the booking form prices it like any other trip; where we cannot, we tell you straight away and why, before you fill in any details.
The earlier the better, especially for early flights. For airport transfers we recommend booking the day before; same-day requests depend on availability and always require advance booking.
When it says “closed price”, yes: VAT included, fixed when you confirm, and it would only change if you alter the route, add stops or there is a long wait, and you are told first. There are two cases where the screen says something else: an “on request” vehicle is confirmed before anything is charged, and if you pick a driver's bid you pay that price on its conditions (no time change and no refundable cancellation). The price comes from our fare, or from the fare of the fleet that runs it if it has an approved one; if you don't pick anyone, you pay our fare.
If you give us the flight or train number we adjust the pickup to the actual arrival time, and the waiting included at airports and stations is more generous than at an address: the exact minutes are in the terms of service.
