Hotels and rural houses in the Montaña Palentina, on the Camino de Santiago and in Palencia: how to offer transfers to guests arriving by train at Palencia station or by air at Valladolid, Barajas or Santander
Accommodation in Palencia province takes in more and more guests without a car: they arrive by train at Palencia station, on the high-speed line from Madrid to León and Santander, or by air at Villanubla, Barajas or Santander, and from there is no public way to carry on to a rural house in the mountains, a hostel in Carrión or a hotel in the capital. A property can offer the transfer as one more service: it is booked in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the driver waits with a name sign, the price is fixed before booking and the invoice goes to the property or the guest, as requested. Aguilar de Campoo to Palencia station is 95 km and about 66 min, from 125,95 €.

How do guests reach the mountains, the Camino and the capital today?
Three types of accommodation, three arrivals and the same problem. The Montaña Palentina lives on rural houses, inns and small hotels in Aguilar de Campoo, Cervera de Pisuerga and the villages of the natural park, visited for Romanesque churches, walking and the reservoirs, with a high season from June to September and weekends all year round. The Camino de Santiago fills hostels, guesthouses and hotels in Frómista and Carrión de los Condes from spring to autumn, with a client who arrives on foot but often begins or ends the Camino at Palencia station. And the capital has city hotels for the business traveller, trade fairs, San Antolín and Holy Week, with a guest who comes by train from Madrid or from the north.
More and more of those guests arrive without a car. Those from Madrid take the high-speed train to Palencia station, which puts the capital an hour and a half from Chamartín, or carry on along the Santander line to Aguilar de Campoo or Frómista, with few services; foreigners land at Barajas, Villanubla or Santander and look for a way to reach a village their flight search engine has never heard of. The intercity bus reaches the larger towns at residents' hours, not hotel hours, and nothing reaches the mountain hamlets. The result is an email every property in the province knows: "we arrive by train on Friday afternoon, how do we get to you?"
What problem does the property face when a guest arrives without a car?
The first is distance. Palencia station is in the south of a long province: Aguilar is an hour away on the A-67, Carrión a good half hour on the CL-615 and a rural house in the natural park further still over mountain roads; from Villanubla or Barajas, the sums begin in Valladolid or in Madrid. The second is the hour: many trains and flights arrive at night, when nobody is left on the station forecourt and the last bus has gone. The third is the address: a rural house is often a spot in the country with no number, and the pilgrim arriving at the Carrión hostel does not know from which point on the Camino they will be collected the next day if they have decided to skip the Calzadilla straight.
For a rural house in the mountains the problem multiplies: the village has no taxi rank, and the guest who has reached Aguilar on the regional train with a suitcase ends up ringing the property so that someone comes down to fetch them. That is the owner's time, kilometres on the house car and insurance that does not cover clients. In winter, with snow on the passes, it is also a risk nobody wants to take with a private car. The province page says it of the sites in the north: they are scattered, poorly connected places best visited with the trip booked. The same goes for the arrival, and solving it before the guest asks is part of the welcome.
How do you offer the transfer to a guest: booking in their name, sign and invoice?
The property registers as a partner on the hotels page or on the flats and rural houses page, with its tax details and the reception staff authorised to book. From then on, when a guest confirms a stay, reception books the transfer in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the property's address and the exact drop-off point: the hotel door, the village square if the rural house's lane does not take a car, or the hostel. The price is fixed before booking and the guest knows it in advance; the driver follows the arrival of the train or flight in the app and waits at the door of Palencia station or in arrivals at Villanubla, Barajas or Santander with a sign bearing the guest's or the property's name.
The invoice goes to whoever the property decides: the guest, who pays for the transfer as they would pay a taxi, with their name and the trip, or the property, which adds it to the room bill or offers it within a weekend package and receives a single monthly invoice with one line per service. The figures are the engine's, the same as for any private customer: Carrión de los Condes to Palencia station, 42 km and about 38 min; Saldaña to the station, 65 km; Palencia to Villanubla, 56 km; Palencia to Barajas, 235 km and about 181 min; Aguilar to Santander, 104 km. Each route has its page with the "from" fare that reception can show the guest.
Which excursions with waiting time do guests ask for, and how are they organised?
Once at the property, the guest without a car wants to see the province, and here the transfer with waiting time or several stops replaces the hire car they do not have. From a rural house in the mountains, the classic day is the Romanesque one: Santa María la Real in Aguilar, two or three churches of the Ojeda with the driver waiting while the keyholder turns up, and the reservoir viewpoint. From the Camino, the pilgrim staying two nights in Carrión asks for La Olmeda and the locks of the Canal de Castilla at Frómista, or for the backpacks to be moved to the next stage. From the capital, the cathedral and the Cristo del Otero in the morning and La Olmeda in the afternoon, back in time for the train.
Reception books the tour as a single service with the stops and the time for each, and the calculator gives the full price before confirming; if the guest wants to extend a visit, they tell the driver and the return adjusts. The province's guide on the mountains, the Romanesque churches and the Camino without a car explains the tours and the seasons, and makes a good link for the welcome folder. For groups filling a whole rural house or a hostel, several cars are coordinated on the same tour under one booking; from Aguilar, for example, La Olmeda is 89 km away. The opening hours of each site are published by its managers and change with the season.
What happens at San Antolín, Holy Week and the mountain summer, and what commission does the property get?
The dates when the capital's hotels hang out the full sign are the ones that close the centre to traffic: Holy Week, with the processions through the old town for several days, and San Antolín, in early September, with concerts, a fair and the cathedral crypt open. On those days the guest cannot always be dropped at the hotel door; the driver leaves them at the point the council's arrangements allow and reception does well to say so when confirming the booking. In the mountains the season is summer, from June to September, when traffic on the A-67 towards Cantabria grows at weekends and it is worth booking transfers days ahead; in winter, with snow on the passes, the driver confirms the day before. The price does not change for a holiday or the high season.
For every transfer the property books or recommends to its guests, the platform pays it the commission published on its partners page, with each service itemised in the panel and the settlement in writing. There is no fee, minimum or lock-in, and the property decides on each booking whether the guest pays directly or the amount goes onto its monthly invoice. Registration is done from the partners page, choosing between hotel and flat or rural house, and the panel lets several reception staff book with the same access. What the platform does not do, it does not promise: it assures no volume of guests or services, and what it offers is written on the help page.
Frequently asked questions
Who is invoiced for a guest's transfer?
Whoever the property names when booking: the guest, with their name and the trip, or the property, on a monthly invoice with one line per service that it can pass on to the room bill or include in a package.
What if the guest's train or flight is late?
The booking carries the train or flight number and the driver follows the actual arrival in the app: the pickup moves with the delay and the driver waits at the door of Palencia station or in arrivals with the sign. Waiting conditions are on the help page.
How does a rural house in the Montaña Palentina book for a guest arriving at Palencia station?
From the partner panel, with the train number, the guest's name and the house's address or location; add a landmark if there is no number. From the station to Aguilar de Campoo it is 95 km along the A-67.
Can a Camino hostel book a backpack transfer or a transfer for an injured pilgrim?
Yes. You book with the hostel of origin, the destination hostel or Palencia station, the number of people and backpacks; for a pilgrim who cannot carry on, the driver collects them at the hostel and takes them to the station or the health centre. It is not medical transport.
What commission does the property receive and when is it settled?
The commission published by the platform on its partners page, for each service booked or recommended by the property, itemised in the panel and settled in writing. No fee, minimum or lock-in.

How we write, where the figures come from and how we correct an error: editorial policy.
The Holy Week and San Antolín traffic closures belong to Palencia city council and change every year; check them with the local police before promising a drop-off point. The commission, account conditions and waiting terms are those published on the partners and help pages on the date consulted; no volume of services is promised to anyone. Distances and times are those of the route engine in daytime with no incidents; in winter the mountains can lengthen them.
